Be Safe
- Lighting
- You should always make sure that you have a front and rear light while riding your bike. You never know if you might get caught up somewhere and find yourself riding at night.
- Wear bright clothes
- Make sure you wear clothes that will allow you to be seen by motor vehicle and other people. A bad idea would be to wear all black while riding at night. Reflective cloths would be your best option as it allow for you to be the most visible during all hours.
- Wear a helmet
- Wear a helmet while riding your bike. It protects your noodle from hard impacts if you happen to fall off your bike.
- Tell a friend
- Tell someone you are going to be on your bike and where you are going. This way they know if something has happened to you and where they should look.
- Riding position
- You should always ride with traffic and NEVER against it. It is extremely dangerous and increases your chance for being struck by a motor vehicle significantly.
- Intersections
- When riding through intersections be aware of vehicles around you. Make sure you are prepared to make s quick stop if you need to and DO NOT assume that a vehicle is going to stop for you. They might not see you and in a fight you will lose. They are encased in steel and You are encased in flesh.
- Keep your bike maintained
- Make sure that your bike is in proper working order before you vehicle out into that grand open wilderness. You should have a check list to things that you look over before you leave. Always make sure:
- Tires are at the correct PSI
- Seat is at the correct height
- Chain is properly lubricated and it is not to loose or to tight
- Bolts and nuts are on secure and nothing will fall apart as you ride
- Gears and axes turn properly and will not get stuck as you ride
- Bring a spare
- It's always a good idea to bring a spare tube and tools in the unpleasant situation that you get a flat or something breaks.
